Li-ion batteries are currently the dominant energy storage device for high-energy applications, such as cell phones and laptops. However, in the context of sustainable development, the high cost and the relatively low energy density are difficult to meet the requirements of applications in the future. For example, electric vehicles require batteries with a lower cost and a higher energy density to reduce the cost and improve the driving range; and the development of renewable but intermittent energy, such as solar and wind, also requires large-scale low-cost energy storage devices.
Our Lithium- Sulfur (Li-S) batteries have the ability to fulfil these requirements of future applications. They have an energy density of ~300 wh/kg which is double of the common Li-ion batteries available in the market. The use of earth-abundant sulfur as the cathode also assures the low cost and the large-scale applications.
Technology Features, Specifications and Advantages
Our Li-S batteries are made of Li anode and sulfur cathode. They are low cost energy batteries and have a high energy density of ~300 wh/kg which is double of the common Li-ion batteries available in the market. The use of earth-abundant sulfur as the cathode also assures the low cost and the large-scale applications.
With the low-cost and high-energy-density features, our Li-S batteries are ideal for electric vehicles and grid storage applications. Additionally, Li-S batteries can be used in Unmanned vehicles such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). Li-S batteries will be useful for UAVs and AUVs which require high energy-density to endure long travelling distances.
For the same energy, our Li-S batteries cost much lower than Li-ion batteries while our batteries also provide a higher energy density.
