Mechanical Energy Harvester

Abstract/Technology Overview

We have developed a product, which can harvest energy upon application of mechanical force (including simple hand tapping, stretching or human motion). The device is stretchable and can be conformably attached to human skin. The device is also capable of enduring high mechanical strain and deformations. The energy generated from the mechanical impact can power electronic devices such as watches, mobile phones, RFID sensors, touch sensors, artificial intelligence, and bio-integrated electronics.

The device can effectively be used as a power source for wearable electronics. Within the wearable market segment, the device can be used in sportswear to power sports monitoring wearable gadgets. Additionally, the device can also be used for green buildings, smart shoes and low power consumer electronics.

Technology Features, Specifications and Advantages

The technology comprises of a mechanical energy harvester which can generate energy by simple hand tapping, stretching or human motion. A device (size 0.25 m2) can generate a power of 0.5 W upon application of mechanical force. The amount of energy generated can be effectively used to power wearable devices like watches, mobile phones and sensors.

Potential Applications

The device is stretchable, so it can be conformably attached to human skin, thus making it an effectively energy source for wearable electronics. The device can also make the electronics self-powered as the energy generated from mechanical energy harvester can power electronic devices such as mobile phones, RFID sensors, smart shoes and low power consumer electronics.

Customer Benefit

The device is portable and can be used as an energy harvester for self-powered wearable electronics. It provides the convenience to self-charge the battery of the electronics device while walking.
