Improved Solar Water Heater for Domestic and Industrial Usage


Abstract/Technology Overview

This technology features a compact design Solar Water Heater (SWH) which utilises attached Stationary Thermal Battery. The system leverages on the advantage of Phase Change Materials (PCMs). It is able to produce instant hot water for domestic and industrial applications in both day and night time, with higher gain of solar energy as compared to conventional systems.


Technology Features, Specifications and Advantages

This system is 20% cheaper in terms of system components maintenance, with the compact design resulting in lesser infrastructures in the buildings. Its reliable structure makes the system easy to use and is flexible for both domestic and industrial applications. The technology increases the absorbed energy portion, regulates the hot water output to normal range and operates in both day and night time with no stratification problem.

 


Potential Applications

This technology is suitable for small and medium size domestic applications in tropical regions and single season countries. With the combination of compact and conventional heat pipes solar collector for industrial application, this technology is potentially suitable to be used in cooling systems (such as integrating with an absorption chiller).
